Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Summer Camp Requirements.
According to the Department of Children and Families (DCF), Florida Law requires all "Summer Camp" owners, operators, employees, and volunteers (that assist more than 10 hours per month) to comply with a DCF level 2 background check and must have their fingerprints retained by the FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement).
This law also requires all children, 17 years of age to 12 years of age. who volunteer or are employed more than 10 hours per month to also have a DCF background check and Fingerprints retained by the FDLE.
The process for adults and children (17 to 12 years of age) will be as follows:
The individual will need to first visit their parish/school office:
- Sign "Affidavit of Good Moral Character" and
- Sign "Waiver" Form
- Pay for their background check at this time unless other arrangements have been made with their Pastor or Principal. Cost will be $65.75 per person for first time screening.
- You will then be given the unique Filedprint Code flyer and instructions to be fingerprinted and photographed.
A DCF background check must be completed within 60 days of the start of the "Summer Camp" and will need to be completed again if there is a 90 day break in employment or volunteering for a "Summer Camp". Reprocessing will follow a different process, will be less costly and individuals will not need to be re-fingerprinted. (The cost for renewal is currently $16.50.)
for this option if/when needed.
All adults 18 years of age and older must also complete the two required safe environment courses with "Shield the Vulnerable"
The required courses for Summer Camps are:
Recognize, Report & Prevent Child Abuse
(Code of Conduct for this Diocese is included in the course)
Detecting Predators: Guard the Children
Individuals must be re-certified every five years with a safe environment course approved by our Diocese.
* Adult volunteers who complete a DCF background check for a "Summer Camp", are not considered cleared through the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee to be employed or volunteer with chilren and/or vulnerable adults for schools and parishes of the diocese until they have completed a VECHS (Volunteer Employee Criminal History Systems) background check through this Diocese.
